I have been putting together Spencer and Skyler’s journals for the last few days. I started on Spencer’s today and I was writing about when our doctor told us about his tongue-tie issue. I decided to try and find a link on WebMD to explain what it means to be tongue-tied. So on WebMD it says that tongue-tie occurs more frequently “in babies with other congenital conditions that affect the mouth and face, such as X-linked cleft palate.” Up until today I had no idea there was a link between tongue-tie and clefts. In all of the research I’ve read on clefts it states that, although clefts tend to run in families, it is not hereditary. And I guess that’s sort of the case here. I’m sure even if I had read there was a connection between tongue-tie and clefts back when Spencer was a baby I still never would have imagined Caleb would be born with a cleft. But it’s interesting now in hindsight. Just thought I’d share.

I finally talked to Keaton’s teacher. She called again tonight. And we were home this time. She said she was calling all parents to see if we had any questions about the school year or how she does things. I’ve actually talked to her quite a few times already, so I didn’t really have any questions. But she did go on to tell me that Keaton is very funny and always has a lot of great ideas. She also told me he is very smart and does a great job in school. Of course, I already knew all of this, but it’s so awesome to hear it from his teacher.

This weekend we were in the car for something [the weekend is kind of a blur to me now]. Skyler & Spencer were in the back and they were picking on each other [nothing out of the ordinary there]. I heard Spencer say, “K-I-S-S-I-N-G.” Apparently Skyler must have some admirer at school or something and Spencer was poking a little fun at her. I thought, “Well how cool is that. Spencer can spell.”

So then a few minutes later I realized they were playing “Dr. Phil.” They were giving each other relationship advice and saying “I’m Dr. Phil.” I almost lost it I was laughing so hard.

Do you think I watch to much Dr. Phil when the kids are playing “Dr. Phil” as a game?

It was such a busy weekend I almost forgot to go through Keaton’s bag. But I was looking through the caller ID and I noticed that Keaton’s teacher had called tonight while we were at soccer practice. She wanted to see if we had any questions for her about the school year or how things are going so far. I thought that was so nice. His teacher this year is just awesome.

So anyway, that reminded me I needed to check Keaton’s bag. I checked it just a few minutes ago. And WOW I’m glad I did. He had two…count them…T W O…positive notes in his bag. Apparently he was a good listener in Science so his science teacher gave him a tootsie roll. And then his regular teacher left me a “Good News” note that read,

“I have really appreciated Keaton’s positive attitude throughout the day. I can tell he loves a challenge especially in math. It’s great to see him apply his skills!”

I’m so proud of him. He does such a great job. He’s already in bed (in fact he put himself in bed and was fast asleep by 8pm tonight…guess he was tired after two sleepovers this weekend plus a Cub Scout hike and the Civil Reenactment. So anyway, since he’s already in bed I left him a little note in his agenda (much like a Franklin Planner…in fact it’s manufactured by Franklin Covey) to let him know how proud I am of him. He such a cool kid. I’m so lucky he’s mine.
