Finals Week
I had my very last regular Finite Math class last night. We got our quizzes back. Just for some background information, my teacher always makes each question worth 2 points. So the quizzes are always 12 questions (plus we get one extra point for good measure) and the tests are always 25 questions long.
So like I said…I got my last quiz back last night. I missed one. Apparently in my world 9/12 reduces to 1/4?!? What?!? I don’t know what drugs I was on last week. So I was mad at myself for missing such a simple thing. [The correct answer was 3/4 for those who are mathmatically challenged like myself.] Then Mitch (teacher) said the test didn’t go very well. He said the average score was around 15 to 17. I got a 23. So I guess I can’t complain to much. Unless I bomb my final next week (which is highly unlikely) I will have an A in this class. Far cry from the C- I got when I first took this class back in 1995 (when I had mono…and missed lots of class).
So anyway…enough bragging about my exceptional brain power.
Next week is finals week. And I [of course] have procrastinated. I have six chapters to study and assignments to complete for my guided self study Accounting II class. Yes I am a huge slacker. So if I don’t return your calls this week don’t take it personally. I’ve been up until 3am every night since Saturday attempting to study [but studying is so boring and I often find myself on the internet instead...I blame the internet.]
Plus next Wednesday through Friday I have to go to Chicago on business. That wasn’t very good planning on work’s part. I hate it when work interfers with my personal life.
Don’t they know people have finals???
Lee is a little less then thrilled about me being gone for three days. But he’ll survive. I, on the other hand, am torn. I’m excited about hanging out in Chicago as well as actually getting to put a face to the voices I hear on the phone. But I’m not too excited about spending 250 bucks on a hotel room just two weeks before Christmas (cause you know I won’t have my reimbursement check until some time in January…at least). Plus leaving my family. Plus leaving for three days right smack dab in the middle of finals week. But I guess these are the prices you pay for being a highly paid businesswomen…you know, without the highly paid part.
So anyway…I have gotten totally off the subject (which happens often with me). I wanted to post to let you know about this cool new website I found. At RateMyProfessor.com you can rate your professors or see how other professors rated. It could come in very handy when choosing classes each term. I rated my Finite Math teacher, Mitch Roose. I gave him a glowing recommendation. If you aren’t in college yet you can rate your elementary, middle school or high school teachers at RateMyTeachers.com. Check it out. Some of them are pretty funny. Plus on the RateMyTeachers one, parents can comment too. So if you, as a parent, have had a problem with one of your child’s teachers you can rant about it here. Or if your child has had an exceptional parent, share it with the world.
Apparently some schools have blocked these websites from their intranet. That’s really too bad. I think this is a great way for kids to rate their teachers. And it’s also a great way for teachers to see where they are lacking so they can make improvements. Granted some students may take out their aggressions on this site, but I’ve read many of the comments for area school — high schools and colleges — and I don’t think most teachers or students would take offense to any of them (well there may be a few inappropriate ones, but I couldn’t find any). We need to let our young people express themselves. And we need to let them be heard. If a teacher sucks why can’t we let the students warn others. Maybe we could actually team up students with teachers who can get the material across in a way that particular student will understand. Imagine that…students and teachers working together to learn and teach. Ooohhh…aaaahhh…that’s quite a concept. Some students learn better by hard-nosed, lots of homework teachers. Some student (like myself) learn better with teachers who spend the whole class time lecturing about exactly what will be on the test and going over homework problems. And some students prefer more laid back teachers who allow students to go at their own pace (I’m not so good with that…refer back to my Accounting II procastination comments above).
So anyway, if you are a student or the parent of a student check out those websites and rate your teachers. Especially if you are a communications or marketing major at the U of I. I need to know which teachers to avoid.
