Let the Fun Begin
Well it’s official. School is about to start. Registration was Monday and Tuesday. And I went both days. Plus Wednedsay. I’ve been a busy girl. And I’m not even taking any classes this term.
On Monday I went to register Keaton, Skyler & Spencer. I was excited to find out who Skyler & Spencer’s teachers would be and Keaton wanted to make sure he was on the same team [they split the 6th grade in to an orange team and a black team] as all of his friends.
Keaton is on the orange team. I am very happy about that because I already know all of the teachers. When Justis was in sixth grade he was also on the orange team. So I have already spoken to all of them back then and they all are very nice.
Skyler’s teacher is an older woman whom I’ve heard is very good. So I think Skyler will do really well.
Spencer’s teacher is a younger woman with a lot of energy. When we went to kindergarten roundup in April I knew immediately I wanted that woman to be one of my kids’ teachers. And I’m glad she’s Spencer’s teacher. Spencer will need somebody to inspire him. Not because he’s “slow” or anything, but because he’s extremely shy in new situations. The first few days of school will be really hard on him [especially since Skyler will not be in his class]. So he needs somebody outgoing who won’t be afraid to get him involved and making new friends.
On Tuesday I went to register Justis. However, I couldn’t actually register him because I am not his legal guardian. So I filled out the paperwork and brought it home for Lee to sign. Then I ran it back out the school on Wednesday to give it to the office. Next Monday Justis will have to go out to the school to take placement tests. I’m sure he’s thrilled about that.
Yesterday I spent over a hundred dollars on school supplies. Having four kids in school really hits the ole pocket book. Hard. And all of that was on top of a couple hundred dollars in registration fees. It’s not cheap to get a good education these days.
I was getting a little misty eyed last night going through all of those supplies. (1) Because I realized I forgot a couple of things and I’ll have to go back to the damn store. And (2) because I cannot believe my babies are in school already.
I put all of their school supplies in their backpacks and then they wanted to try them on. So they put on their backpacks and walked around in the yard for a while. You could tell they thought they were the big cheeses [that ones for you Necole :)] out there with their cool new backpacks on.
They are so excited about this transition in their lives. I, on the other hand, am sad that my babies are growing up. In no time they will be getting boyfriends and girlfriends, moving out, getting married and having babies of their own. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Kids grow up so fast.
