Holding God’s Hands
Apr 23, 2006 A day in our life
Justis took his next steps in faith today. He was confirmed.
He’s been working towards confirmation all year. They’ve been discussing what it means to be a good Christian and accept God in their hearts. Justis has learned a lot [even if his #1 reason for going to church is to meet people...especially girls].
In January they got an assignment. They had to write their Statement of Faith; what they believe about the church, God, Jesus, the teachings in the bible, baptism and confirmation. Justis was a little slow at getting his written, but once he got it done I was really happy with it. I think he did a great job.
After the kids wrote their Faith Statements they had a session with Pastor Langley and some senior members of the church to discuss their beliefs. Justis came home from this meeting really excited. He told Lee about it and me and Grandpa Brunsting. I think it’s awesome that Justis has such an appreciation for church.
And this weekend all of that hard work paid off. Justis is officially a member of the church.
Grandma O, Grandpa Brunsting, Great-Grandpa Brunsting and Ardyce all came to watch the ceremony and celebrate this milestone.
The Youth Director, Carl, gave the sermon. He talked about how confirmation is not the final step at church. You don’t stop coming to church just because you’ve been confirmed. Now is the time to make your own impact on the church.
Carl also encouraged us older members to listen to the new confirmands. And to open our hearts to their new ideas.
Then Pastor Langley welcomed each of the confirmands to the church and gave them a candle. One by one the kids lit their candles and placed them in their holders.
It was a very special ceremony. I think the kids have learned a lot about the presbyterian faith and what we believe as presbyterians. And I am really impressed with the effort Justis has put forth to learn all he can in church. I think in the beginning, Keaton and Justis only came to church because I made them. But now they come because they enjoy it. And I can’t tell you how that warms my heart.
