A party so nice we did it twice

We celebrated Caleb’s 4th birthday last night with just us and the kids. Lee picked up some cupcakes and we all chowed down.

Today we had a party at home with family and friends. Good thing we didn’t plan an outdoor event because it rained off and on all day and it was maybe 50 degrees out. Brrr.

Once everybody got their we got Caleb to open his presents. He was pretty excited about it. It’s so much fun when the kids are finally old enough to really understand what’s going on. He loved the presents. The cards? Not so much. He just ripped the cards off and threw them at Lee or me.

At one point Caleb opened his card from Grandma O and actually started examining it. We were all impressed thinking he was finally showing some interest in the cards. But then he opened it up and read it. He read, “Now open your present.” He’s so funny.

Caleb made out pretty well. He got a Hot Wheels race track, some “guys” [which are action figures like The Human Torch and The Thing], the Chicken Little DVD, some play-doh, a Nerf gun, a Superman slip-and-slide, some legos and lots and lots of clothes [which he sooo desperately needed].

Lee will turn 36 on Friday. Since we had the whole family together today they decided to give him his gifts today.Lee with his new grill He did pretty well himself. He got some clothes, a gift certificate to a sports store so he can get some new softball cleats and a new glove, and a new Foreman grill. Oh how he loves that new Foreman grill. We recently had an unfortunately chicken incident with our old indoor grill. Without going in to all of the gory details, we had to throw the grill out. Plus this new grill has removable plates so he can just throw them in the dishwasher. I gotta tell ya, that rocks like a stone turd.

After opening presents, we headed in to the kitchen for cake and ice cream.

Caleb's birthday cake

Lee did a super job with the cake. He found this pre-maid Spiderman cake at the store. All it had when he bought it was the big Spiderman picture in the middle. Lee decorated it with the rest of the goodies.

The cake was a bit of a novelty. It looks like a normal cake, but it’s really cupcakes with a thick layer of icing on top. It’s really very cool.

We sang “Happy Birthday” and then Caleb blew out his candles. Then everybody enjoyed a cupcake and ice cream. Yummy!

It was a great day. I know Caleb had a great time and Lee is very happy with his presents too. So it was a great success.
