Hitch your wagon to a star in the Sky[ler]
Aug 23, 2006 A day in our life, Dude, you're gettin' an 'A'
Editor’s note: When I was a freshman in high school I was totally in love with this senior. He was a salutatorian of their class. He wasn’t some nerdy, geek though. He was a gorgeous Adonis who played on the football team and was very popular. I worked up the courage to speak to him occassionally and even got him to give me one of his senior pictures. But needless to say, he was not looking for a relationship with a freshman.
Now he’s a urologist in a neighboring town.
This has nothing to do with the story I’m about to tell you, but it does have to do with the title. This guy’s speech at graduation was titled Hitch your wagon to a star and was all about them starting their journey in the “real” world and making sure they made good decisions to become good adults.
So there you have it. A little insight in to the magic that is my brain. I never claimed to be all that imaginitive when it comes to thinking up good titles to posts.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled program….
Around 5:18pm last night [that's caller id for ya'], Skyler’s teacher called. I wasn’t home from work yet, but Lee spoke to her.
When I got home Lee said, “Skyler, tell Mom what happened today?”
I looked over at Skyler and she was giving Lee a blank stare.
Lee continued, “Tell Mom about your teacher calling tonight.”
I started to panic. What?!? The teacher called? Skyler’s teacher? What for? What happened? She’s usually our “good child.” What did she do? Did she hurt somebody? Did somebody hurt her? Did…
Then I looked over at Skyler and she had a big grin on her face. What is she grinning about? Did she kill somebody and she’s happy about it? Do we need to seek counseling? Are we going in to hiding?
And I looked over at Lee and he was grinning too.
What’s with all the freakin’ grinning?
I took a deep breath and said, “What did your teacher call for?”
Skyler shrugged her shoulder, grinning bigger then ever now, and said, “I don’t remember it all.”
Then I yelled “For the Love of God tell me what’s going on people before I bust a nut.”
Ok, I didn’t really say that last part, but I was sure thinking it.
Finally Lee said, “Skyler’s teacher called to tell us how happy she is to have Skyler in her class. She said she is a big helper and very polite and a great learner.”
Lee said the teacher went on and on about how great Skyler is and what a pleasure she is to have in class.
That’s our girl. I’m not at all surprised.
