Cheerleading, football and rants, oh my!

(1) Our local CBS affiliate pre-empted Thursday nights Big Brother with a PRE-SEASON Bears game. My mom, WHO LIVES IN CHICAGO, got to watch Big Brother. We got a PRE-SEASON game. PRE-SEASON! Some of those players won’t even make the team. The game has no bearing on their ranking. Nobody cares! Plus I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that there are probably more Chicago Bears fans in Chicago then there are here. But they got to watch Big Brother and we got football. Bastards.

So anyway….

(2) Last night was the first high school football game of the year. The sophomores played first followed by the varsity team. [Justis' first freshman game isn't until Tuesday.]

Skyler cheerleadingBetween the sophomore game and the varsity game, the elementary school girls, including Skyler, cheered.

Skyler went to cheerleading camp after school on Wednesday. The high school cheerleaders worked with the girls, teaching them cheers. Last night they got to show off all that they learned.

Skyler loved it. She proudly wore her “Born to cheer” shirt and showed off her stuff.

It was a mad house. There were thousands of elementary girls on the field. And each of them brought many family members. Finding a spot on the bleachers was almost impossible. The only spot we could find was clear on the end. The end completely opposite from where Skyler was cheering.

So with camera in hand I made my way through a sea of people to the other end. I slid in between a couple of other mothers holding video cameras and snapped as many pictures as I could.

Skyler spotted me and started to ham it up. After every cheer she clasped her hands together and gave me a big toothy grin. It was so sweet.

After about five cheers she was starting to get a little bored. I could tell by the look on her face that she was ready to leave the field and just watch the game. But at the end of each cheer she still jumped up and down, clapping and yelling “Go.” She’s quite a cheerleader!

Then they were done and they led the girls off the field. I made my way through another sea of never-ending parents to go get her. She was so excited. With a big smile she said, “that was fun Mom.”

  1. It’s so nice when the kids get involved in extra-curricular activities. It’s such a proud moment for the parents! Great pictures!

  2. Oh, I hope you were able to catch Big Brother somehow. It was a good one. Will should win again. He is the best player to ever play this game, though I wouldn’t trust him in real life for one second.
