Our trip to Great America in pictures
Sep 19, 2006 Seeing the world
The kids slept in the car so it didn’t even phase them that we didn’t get to Grandma’s house until 4am. They all woke up and were ready to go around 8am. I, on the other hand, was not so wide eyed and bushy tailed.
I finally dragged my butt out of bed and in to the shower around 9:30am. And we were on the road by 10am.
My mom lives about an hour [52 minutes according to Mapquest and the kids held Mapquest to that
] from Great America so we got to the park just before 11am. As soon as the little kids saw the big two story carousel and the big boys saw the big Superman roller coaster they started to get giddy and excited.

Once we made it through the metal detectors and a goofy looking guy did a thorough search of our purses, we headed off to the carousel.

After a few more rides, we decided to get some lunch. As we were finishing up our pizza and soda, the kids noticed Bugs Bunny and the Tazmanian Devil had come out for some fresh air.

This is when we realized we were right next to the theatre where the Looney Tunes were performing. And there was a show in just ten minutes. Keaton and Justis weren’t too interested in the show so they dragged Lee to go ride some roller coasters.
As we settled in to our seats in the theatre we noticed a girl selling cotton candy. Never being a shy one, Skyler walked up and asked the girl how much it cost to get some cotton candy. She reported back to me, “$3.” I sent her off with $15 and Skyler came back with three bags.

Then we watched the show. It was Looney Tunes Tonight with Bugs Bunny.

It was a talk show. Bugs interviewed a bunch of guests including Pepe Lepew, Daffy Duck and Petunia and Porky Pig. Pepe was showing off his new “stinky” perfume. Daffy Duck was jealous and went on and on about how he was going to have his own talk show; Late Night with Daffy Duck. And Petunia and Porky were showing off the moves from their new workout video.

There was even audience participation. Any time they said “Bugs Bunny” we said “yee haw” and any time they said “Daffy Duck” we said “woot woot.” We had a great time. And after the performance all of the characters waited around so the kids could come give them hugs. Skyler ran around the place hugging every single character. It was so cute.
After the show we met up with the rest of the family. We decided to head over to the rafting ride. And this is where the trip got very interesting.
As we were standing in line at the rafting ride, we noticed tons [and I mean tons] of stuff in the water. There were IDs, credit cards, watches, cell phones, jewelry, shoes, everything. Lee was getting football updates from his friend on his cell phone. He told him all about the stuff in the water. He said, “Dude it’s crazy. You should see this.”
About ten minutes later we were still in line. Only by this point we were high up on a bridge that went over the “river” ride. Lee noticed his cell phone hanging out of his pocke on it’s clip. He decided he should take it off the side of his pants and put it in his pocket. He didn’t want it to end up in the river look all that other stuff.
As Lee went to grab his cell phone it slipped out of his hand, bounced on the bridge and fell to it’s watery grave below. I said, “well I guess now we know how all that stuff got in the river.”
We survived the rest of the ride without losing anything else. We did get soaked though. There is a spot on the ride where you get hit by this big hoses. As we stepped off the ride we noticed people actually paid to use these hoses to spray people. Somebody paid to spray me. Bastard. [And I say that in the most sincerest of ways.
]
We needed to decide where to go next. So Caleb opened up the map to see where to go.

But before we moved on we noticed a parade was going by. We saw Wonder Woman and The Flash. We also saw Tweety and Sylvester.
As we were leaving the parade Lee and I decided to put on our Sunday best. Look how handsome Lee looks in that long blonge hair. And look, I finally have boobs.

After a few more rides, our sunny, beautiful day turned in to this…

It down poured on us. Not a little sprinkle. But cats and dogs. But we weren’t going to let a little rain ruin our big day. So we cowered under a bridge for a while until it slowed down and then we moved on.
When I was pregnant with Skyler & Spencer, Lee and I were in Vegas for my best friend’s wedding. We sat for a caricature which we still have on our wall in our family room. When we walked by a caricature stand at Great America, Keaton’s eyes got big. He wanted a caricature too. So we decided to have Keaton and Justis’ pictures done. I think it turned out great.
Caleb kept begging me to let him play that game where you shoot water in to a target and the first person to get their whatever to the top wins. After the rain, there weren’t many people at the games so I gave in. It was just us playing this water game so obviously we were going to win.
With Lee’s help Caleb won the first game. He got a white bear with a blue heart. Caleb was pissed. He didn’t want no stinkin’ bear. He wanted a monkey.
Lee asked the girl working the game how many times he needed to win to get a monkey. You only had to win twice so we all played again. Again, with Lee’s help [and some help from his brother's who threw the game] Caleb won again. And he got his big monkey. He was so happy.
After that we split up again. The big boys went off to ride more roller coasters and the rest of us hung out at the Cartoon Network land. There were a lot of kiddie rides there for Skyler, Spencer and Caleb to ride on their own. I even went on the little roller coaster with them. Caleb and I sat together. He loved it.
Since it’s September the park closed at 7pm. Around 6:15 [after even more rain], we met up with the big boys and headed toward the bumper cars. This was the last thing on our list of rides we must ride.
Keaton got a car to himself. Lee and Caleb were in a car together. Justis and Spencer were in a car together. And Skyler & I shared a car. I let Skyler drive. And I’m telling you right now, I may never let that girl get a driver’s license. She is a crazy driver. She kept turning the wheel to a hard right making us spin in circles until I was getting a headache. But we were giggling the whole time. And we got some good hits on the boys. We rocked.
We had a great time at Great America. And we can’t wait to go back for more.
