More examples of my procrastination addiction
Sep 27, 2006 A day in our life, Twice as nice
Skyler & Spencer’s birthday is next Wednesday. As in one week from today. So like every good mom I have completely procrastinated on the birthday plans.
Today I asked them where they want to have their party. Spencer said, “Play Station” which is this place where they have big tubes to climb through. I said, “Are you sure you want to go there? They only have those tubes there.”
Skyler piped up and she said, “I want to go to Chuck E. Cheese because they have tubes and games there.”
And I said, “Do you want to go to the pumpkin patch like last year?”
Skyler said, “No, I want to go to Chuck E. Cheese.”
Then Spencer said, “Well, my head says the movies, but my heart says Chuck E. Cheese. I think I’ll go with Chuck E. Cheese.”
Umm…ok.
Then I said, “So is the pumpkin patch out?”
And Spencer said, “Well now my head is saying the pumpkin patch and my heart is saying Chuck E. Cheese. Last time I went with my heart so this time I’ll go with the pumpkin patch.”
And Skyler agreed. Pumpkin patch it is. It’s exhausting getting these two to agree [with me
].
Then I asked them what they want for their birthdays. Skyler said “I want science things.” Spencer said, “I want a pirate ship.” Skyler goes, “Oh and I want books so I can learn more.” But before you get all “ah, look at what a smart girl you daughter is” on me, you should know that just seconds before she proclaimed she wanted some books I asked her to please not stand on my books that I had on the floor in my “office.” [I use the term office loosely because it's really just a desk in the corner of our family room.]
So guess what I’ll be doing tonight. I’ll be scrambling to make birthday invitations so they can take them to school tomorrow and I’ll be updating their wishlists online.
Speaking of birthday invites. A note came home in their school bags about a week or two ago and it said do not send invites to school unless you send enough for everybody in the class. WHAT?!? What’s that all about? Is it because kids get upset if they don’t get invited. Isn’t that part of life though? It happens. We get over it. It’s a lesson kids have to learn at some point.
So is it bad that I told Skyler & Spencer to discreetly slip the invites to the three friends they are inviting without the teacher seeing? I’m so going to hell.

You are SOOOOO gonna be on the “naughty parents” list for that one.
They will probably even start a file folder with your name on it. They might even keep record of this incident on a Post It Note and put it in your Naughty Folder.
And the teachers will probably talk about you in the break room too…just sayin’.
