I’ve still got it
Nov 6, 2006 A day in our life, It's All About Me
Earlier today Keaton and Justis were talking about putting their foot behind their head. I said, “Hey, I can do that.”
Neither one of them believed me, so I tried to demonstrate. But I had a ponytail in my hair and my foot kept getting stuck on it. I was on my way to school so I wasn’t going to mess with my hair. I told them to wait until I got home and I’d show them.
When I got home, I hadn’t even put my school bag down when Keaton greeted me at the back door with, “you thought I’d forget didn’t you?”
I didn’t even know what he was talking about. “Forget what?”
Darn these kids who still have good memories.
So I took the ponytail out of my hair, sat down on the living room floor and gave it a whirl.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before. But I’m no fourteen-year-old girl anymore. I know this because when I was fourteen I could just flip my leg up and over my head with no effort what so ever. Now? Not so much.
So I stretched. I did some toe touches. The butterfly. Stretching out in front of me as far as I could. Caleb thought that was so cool, so he came up with his own stretches. He kept saying, “Mom, can you do this?” as he rolled on his back, put his hands on his feet and stretched. Then he moved in to a new position with his hands under his knees and his legs out in front of him. “Mom, can you do this?”
Finally, I was all stretched out. It was time to prove I’m not old and I’ve still got it. I grabbed my right leg, yanked it up to my head and tucked my head under my calf. I did it. Keaton goes, “ok, you can do it.” I was expecting a little more. Perhaps some jumping up and down or maybe a little “yeah, you’re the most amazing mom in the world.” But all I got was an “ok, you can do it.”
