X is for eXcitement!

Ok, so that’s technically cheating, but I couldn’t figure out how to fit x-ray or xylophone in to a Christmas theme. So eXcitement it is.

It’s not even noon yet and we’ve already had tons of eXcitement at our house. And I’m not even talking about the kids. Yes, they are eXcited. Before I even dragged my tired butt out of bed this morning I heard Skyler exclaim, “Caleb, today is the day we go to Grandma O’s house and open presents.” They are on the countdown.

But there’s been some other eXcitement today.

Yes, interent, there is a Santa Claus. He showed up on our doorstep this morning with a red and greed Santa hat that said “Seasons Greetings” and wearing a United States Postal Service uniform. And in his arms he was bringing us a Gameboy Advance. He was a little skinnier than I imagined, but definitely Santa Claus. How do I know? Because now Caleb won’t be short one gift. By some miracle [or the magic of Santa Claus] his Gameboy Advance came to us by USPS, not just on Christmas Eve, but on a Sunday. I had no idea they were making special trips just for Christmas. But I love them for it.

But that’s not all folks.

Last night as I was laying in bed getting ready to see visions of sugar plums in my head, Lee said, “Don’t turn on the oven tomorrow without taking the cookies out.” Our peanut butter blossom cookies hadn’t fully set yet [those are the ones with the Hershey Kiss in the center], so he put them in the oven so the cats wouldn’t get in to them.

I think you know where I’m going with this. Only it wasn’t me!

I’m in charge of the potato soup for dinner tonight. I’m going to make baked potato soup. Lee decided to be helpful and put the potatos in to bake. So he turned on the the oven and waited for it to preheat. A few minutes later I heard such a clatter [coming from the kitchen]. I ran upstairs to see what was the matter. And what to my wondering eyes should I see? Not eight tiny reindeer, but Lee quickly pulling melting cookies out of the oven. And it wasn’t just the cookies that were starting to melt. The plastic container the cookies were in left a little plastic behind on the rack. Yum!

So we haven’t even made it to Jesus’ birthday party or over to Grandma O’s to open presents yet and the eXcitement has already begun.

How is your Christmas Eve going?
