I’m literally leaking brains

My brains are leaking out of my nose. I’m sure that doesn’t come as a surprise to anybody. But now it’s been officially confirmed by a doctor. Ok, maybe I’m be a little over dramatic. [Me? A drama queen? NEVER!]

I feel like crap today. You know. Same shit, different day. If I felt like wasting an evening I’d link to every post where I bitch and moan about having a cold. I get them often. About every six weeks. It’s a lot of fun. [Damn, I hate it when sarcasm doesn't come through in the written word.]

Yesterday I got a headache. This is not an unusual occurrence for me. I get migraines. A lot. I went to a neurologist when I was in high school. He gave me a book to read. A book he wrote, because not only was he a doctor, but also a published writer and being a doctor gave him the most excellent opportunity to pimp his book. [Whew I need to take a breath after that run-on sentence.] He also took a nice little picture of my brain. And made me keep a food diary. And made me take some medicine that made me crazy [that explains a lot doesn't it ;) ]. The medicine made my mouth feel like I had been eating cotton all day. It also made me forget things. For example, I would get in my car to go somewhere and as I getting ready to pull out of the driveway I’d forget if I was coming or going. Good times. Then he sent me to the university so they could do some shock therapy. [You're starting to understand my quirkiness a little more now aren't you?] Finally he settled on horse pills otherwise known as pain killers. Cause see back in the old days they didn’t have these drugs like Imitrex. Back then you just crawled in the bed, put a cold washcloth on your head and prayed for death, which, cruelly, never came.

This morning I woke up with the same headache and, just for fun, my body threw in a temperature. Yippee. Luckily I didn’t need to make a doctor’s appointment because I already had a regularly scheduled appointment with my Ear, Nose Throat doctor.

At my appointment I was telling Dr. C about the new problems I have with my nose. The pressure in my cheek and forehead and the fact that my right eye feels like it’s going to literally pop out of my head. He decided to take a little looksy up there. I don’t know if any of you have ever had your nose examined by an ENT, but it sure is a good time. He takes this little camera that is really a long piece of very thin rubber and jams it up my nose. All the way to my eyeball. And every time it makes my eyes water and I walk out of the office looking like I’ve just been told I was on my deathbed because my eyes are all red and puffy.

This time he asked me if I’ve ever been tested for allergies. I said yes, but they didn’t find anything. As he was squirming his rubber up my nose [ok, that didn't sound right] he goes, “oh, you have allergies. Your nose is all puffy and full of puss.” Yum! Aren’t you glad you’re reading today?

Then I told him about this really cool trick where when I bend over liquid pours out of my nose. Not like a runny nose, but more like a faucet. It’s way cool. I told Dr. C about the other day when when Lee and I were wrestling and my nose starting pouring liquid all over Lee. Dr. C said “did you win that match?” Lee was pretty grossed out so I consider that a win for me.

But apparently water shouldn’t be rushing out of a person’s nose like that. He tried to get me show him my faucet nose, but I couldn’t perform under pressure. So instead he asked me to try to “catch” some it next time it happens. His concern is that it might be brain fluid. He asked, “does it taste salty?” I said, “I don’t know. It comes out of my nose. I don’t drink it.”

Tomorrow I’m going to be tested for allergies again. My appointment is at 8:30 in the morning. I don’t even make it to work by 8:30 in the morning, but I’ll see what I can do. Then Dr. C and I are going to chat for a while and hopefully I’ll have caught some brain juice for him to analyze.

In the meantime I’m back on a very strong antibiotic for a month. I know. You’re jealous. You wish you could be as healthy as me.

UPDATE: I am not leaking brain fluid. I’ve had several CT scans and we’ve determined the sinus cavity in my forehead is very, very full of mucus and puss and ick. This is not only causing clear fluid to leak out of my nose, but I’m also getting headaches. So I will be having surgery so my ENT can go in there and clean out my sinus cavity.

If you are having similar problems please call your doctor. Try to get an appointment with an ENT [ear, nose throat doctor]. I’m not a doctor and I can’t diagnose your problem. But if fluid is draining out of your nose and/or ears and you don’t have a cold or if your symptoms last for more than a few days seek medical help.

Ummmmm, is this a disorder related to “mommy-brain” because if so I need to get tested. I can’t tell you how many times I have started to do something and instantly forgot what I was doing. :)

I hope the doctors can get to the problem and help you feel better. It is never good when mommy is sick or leaking brains. ;)

    Surely not!

I thought today I had a sinus infection but I will be very interested to know what your ENT says. Let’s hope yer not literally losing yer mind. LOL Cause that would mean I am too!

Ummm, I was doing a search online today, trying to figure out what that bright yellow, clear liquid was coming out my nose!!! I stumbled upon this, and now I’m concerned. Please, please let us know what you find out from your Dr. I feel fine, just got over a cold and had a minor sinus infection. Now this weird liquid is coming out of my nose, and I’m worried!

Hi. I was at dance class tonight, without any cold symptoms. Suddenly liquid just started dripping from my nose. It was nasty. I ran out of class, initially thinking it was my sinuses clearing. But I blew my nose and nothing came out. I took a couple steps and out came pouring a bunch of liquid again. At this point I felt a little scared so I sat down. I sat with a box of tissues next to the garbage can….dripping a light orange fluid. It wouldn’t stop. When it did, all I had to do is move or bend over just a little and it the fluid would continue to drip. I treated it like a bloody nose until I thought it was finished. Throughout the night it didn’t leak uncontrollably, however it would occasionally and spontaneously drip on to the pages of a book I was reading or on to my chest. Could it just be allergies? Could it be a cerbral spinal fluid (csf) leak? It doesn’t feel like just sinuses. Let me know if you have any insight….shannongall@msn.com

Treat warily. In 2002 I was getting clear leak drops when i bent forward to access car-door locking (about 20 degrees) It took a long time (months) to catch some .. but it was CSF and that led to greater medical scrutiny .. then a full blowout leak through the nose(casualty). Then, an operation to seal the flaw in the skull behind my sphenoid sinus(ruptured meningocele/encephalocoele). Then, procedures to get the right ICH shunt inserted. Clear leaks have to be caught to be properly assessed. Have the right pathology script handy together with a specimen flask. Hope you are ok.

I had a nosebleed yesterday and got it to stop within 15 minutes.went to bed in the morning i woke up and everything was fine. if I bend forward a clear stringy liquid comes out of my left nostril, does anyone know if this is simply because of the nose bleed or could this be csf?

I have been diagnosed and treated for a CSF leak where fluid ran out of my nose.
The fluid was clear (tinted does not mean CSF leak)… ran out constantly, not just when I bent over (though it was worse when I bent over).
If you have a CSF leak, you will know it because the symptoms cannot be mistaken – fevers, low body temp (like almost hypothermic) when not feverish, constant colds, infections, and delibitating headaches. While you don’t always have these symptoms, it’s very uncommon for you not to have at least a few at the same time.
If your fluid is not CLEAR, and If you don’t have these symptoms, you don’t have a leak.
Please feel free to contact me archadtz@gmail.com if you want to hear my story, my surgery story, and my success…
It’s been 2 years since my surgery, and still not leaking CSF…

Guys, nobody set what’s that yellow liquid yet! I just got it few minutes ago, it’s little scary. Yellow clear liquid without smell pouring out of my nose for few seconds after I bend over ( to change paper in the printer, nothing else :-) ). I hope it’s just sinuses, nothing else.

I’ve had what sounds like the same thing occur three times in the past three/four months, either when I bent forward or blew my nose. A nostril would all of a sudden run like a tap of yellow watery liquid. No mucus, but just like urine – sorry – and very salty tasting. Freaked me out the first time it happened and it happened again today.
My ENT doctor told me that it is the beginning of mucus production and not to worry unless it gets excessive.
Over the past four years my main problem, which eventually took me to the doctor, was a post nasal drip that drove me crazy. Especially at night when I was laying down. I’ve had a couple of CAT Scans which determined all my sinuses were diseased, likely to be just polyps. Also had allergy tests, which confirmed I was allergic to dogs, cats and the usual weeds. Finally got the nerve to have the sinus surgery to clear my sinuses of the polyps. They did it by guided imagery (tube up nose with camera and cutting instrument, while they looked at screen and cleared the polyps out). No big deal – really.
Have had two incidences of the clear yellow mini explosions since the operation. It actually feels like somethings popped because I can always breath easier from that nostril after it occurs, but it could just be from either moving your head a certain way to allow it to drain or blowing a clear path, so to speak, for it to drain. It’s just your sinuses draining and I don’t believe it’s anything to be terribly concerned about. But I bet that those of you who are getting “colds” all the time are actually experiencing allergic reactions, which are frequently turning into infections. Go to a reputable ENT specialist and get tested for allergies. I’m on an allergy shot regime now, which can take a year before one gets relief. In the meantime, I feel pretty much the same, but at least the polyps are gone, which were really began to impede my breathing as they were growing out of my sinuses into my nasal passages. I still have the terrible post nasal drip, which my doctor said is my body making the mucus to wash away whatever allergins I’m breathing in.
Unfortunately, I think it’s my little dog that I may be allergic to, so I guess I’m just going to have to deal with the problem as I’m not getting rid of her…although I guess she shouldn’t sleep in bed with us, but we don’t want to hurt her feelings and banish her to the floor or her own bed. Ah, what we do for love!

I have the same thing. Freaky. Yellow salty fluid leaking from my nose when I would bend over. It’s stopped happening but was REALLY bad for a while. Seemed worse when I was stressed out in a crappy job. However despite it not happening for a long time I’ve now developed some pretty cool dizzy spells which must be related somehow. I got checked out by an ENT and had a cat scan and showed some weirdo stuff from a broken nose years ago but nothing too nasty. The didn’t image my noggin though. Wish they did though… stuff like that makes the hypocondriac(sp?) in me come out. Good times! Thanks for writing about this it’s comforting to know you’re not the only one.

I’m releaved to read so many people having this same occurrence. I’m just getting rid of a sinus infection that was producing very thick, green mucus (I know – yum!). I took a Z-Pack, and have been on Musinex-D.

When I bend over, totally unexpectedly, my nose will start dripping this yellow liquid. I was just laying in bed asleep and awoke to the same thing dripping out of my nose! I’m a little freaked, I worry about it being some type of fungus and I’ll end up having to have half of my face removed like that one guy that was all over the news a few years ago with the “prosthetic face”. I’ll call the doctor if It’s still happening in 2 days.

    Hi,
I had surgery a year ago. Five disc laminectomy and fusion in my neck. Sometimes when I roll over in bed a clear white fluid comes out of one nostril. Yesterday I was out in the yard bent over pulling weeds. Last night when I went to bed when I rolled over and clear white liquid poured out of my nose. When I got up this I had a horrible headache, especially right on both sides of my nose and behind my eyes. I have been in bed all day taking pain medication. Now my neck is really starting to hurt. Anyone else have these symptoms?

  27. David Said,

    August 27, 2008 @ 3:52 pm

    Terri

Not sure if you’ll see this but go to the hospital right away! Sounds like you have the symptoms of meningitis; it might be nothing but not worth risking.

I have the same weird orangey/yellow drip as a lot of people here, after having had sinus surgery earlier in the year. The doctors are currently testing the fluid to see what it is. In the meantime, they said if I had a stiff neck, sensitivity to bright lights and a splitting headache after a nose leak then to go to the hospital immediately.

To everyone else who has the leak– the doctor said the chances are that it’s not CSF fluid (brain fluid) but sinuses draining, but they need to be sure.

  28. TheMom Said,

    August 31, 2008 @ 7:32 pm

    Dear Bean,

First of all, your ENT should be spraying a numbing agent into your sinuses before sticking anything up there! My ENT numbs and then sprays AFRIN up there before inserting his nifty little camera rod.

Two months ago, I had surgery to correct a deviated septum and to open a sinus cavity that had zero drainage. I had been having chronic sinus infections and that “faucet” nose for at least three years. I’ve learned that this type of surgery is only about 10% successful as a cure (but does alleviate some of the problems, just not all of them) and that the “faucet” nose we all suffer from is pretty common. Most ENTs are familiar with it but it seems a lot of GPs aren’t. My ENT seemed very nonchalant about it and said to bend over after I’ve taken a shower because that’s when a lot of water can collect. He said it’s the sinuses under our eyes that collects the water and bending over is much the same as tipping a bowl of water until it runs over the side. Of course, if there’s fever, pain and greenish mucus, it’s time to see the doctor for a sinus infection. I’m on day 9 of a 14 day dose of antibiotics and I dripped while in Target yesterday. How disgusting!!! So much for that $12,000 surgery.

I thought i can control this orange fluid by pranayama. But it has no effect. If i am in AC, my condition is really bad. right nose, right eye, teeth pain near the right cheek are paining. My brain is also responding a bit slow.

liquid has been coming out of my nose for 4 months now. I went to see
ENT specialist. he told as for last week did not come anything he will not do any more test, just to wait he will see me again next month and meanwhile to try to catch some liquid. So I have to wait until something comes again. The only thing I have done it to stop sneezing so aggressively, and it seems this has stooped the liquid coming out of my nose.

Thanks, that helped. I have been on a 10 antibiotic for a bad cold chest infection. After about 5 days I started to notice my one nostril will run when I bend over to get something out of the car. Clear and watery. When I’m upright, no problem.
When I read your reply, I connected since my eyes have felt quite puffy lately. Maybe seasonal allergies, or asthma who knows, but that could be where the drainage comes from.
    Thanks.

One thing that worried me is sometimes it wakes me up in the middle of the night because i feel my nose is bleeding and really it is just clear watery fluid. This does not happen often but i would really like to know what it is. I do have allergies and take reactin before i head outside to do yard work but my nose is constantly running watery stuff. There is no color though. The ent also said there is nothing wrong. I am going for more test. I know something is not right. I also get really bad headach. Some of the headach scare me because i never got headachs before. This all started when i hit 29 and discovered i had panic disorder. I have had many strange things happen to me but this is about the strangest!!! I felt really dizzy 2 days ago and now I have pressure behind my left eye. Ive never had allergies, and I dont feel sick!!! My 3 yr old head butted my nose 2 times last month pretty hard, my eyes watered for 10 min! I wonder if this may have caused it! My fiancee thinks Im losing my mind and I just have a runny nose, but I think I should know the diff between mucas and straight up salty tastig water!!! Ok, I don’t know if I should be freaked out or treat this thing as nothing. a lot of posts about people having same simptoms and planing on going to their ENTs but no body really saying what is the final outcome or diagnosis… I had a sinus infection which i treated like a stronger flue and took some antibiotics (amoxicilin). The antibiotics helped me but not completely. I did have a lot of mucus but this morning I blew my nose and out comes this strange bright neone yellow (FANTA ORANGE DRINK COLOUR) mucus and it kinda felt physicaly a little releaving. I got worried but not to much. then during the day I would leak hardly noticing this bright neon yellow liquid. I would blow my nose and some came out with some white mucus but not much. when I would bent the liquid same colour only thin would leek out. I am searching around for something usefull where I can catch it and take it to doctors tomorow… oh, and it doesn’t taste salty or like anything else. it has no taste. you guys actualy made me taste some just to be sure…
if someone had already seen an ENT and got treated for this please post something reasuring… thank you xxxxxx

Wow! Today, I was doing flips/handstands at work (I work at a gym…lol) and all of a sudden, this clear-yellow liquid started to “gush/squirt” out of my nose like a faucet. It went everywhere. I immediately stood up and it continued to pour out for about 5 seconds. It was really freaky and I ran for paper-towel. After that, I was fine. About an hour after I got home, it did it again, but this time not as much. I am not sick at all and haven’t been sick. I do have a lot of headaches, but I used to get migraines all of the time. I haven’t had any stuffy or runny noses recently. It really scared me. I would love to know what is going on (probably nothing really) but I have no insurance so basically no way of finding out. Like other people have said, if anyone gets information, please let us know!

Any one have anything leaking into gums? I suck something away all day long after a botched root canal over 9 years ago…use Benzacaine to dull the area but it only lasts until the next time I either drink, talk, or eat…

This is for the person whos gums are leaking, You need to be seen by a dentist it sounds like you may have an abcess or an infection of some sort!! Gargle some water with a lot of salt in it a few times a day it helps with pain and helps get rid of infection but you still need antibiotics also cloves are great for pain in your mouth! If u dont have insurance go to the E.R. and they will give u antibiotics you can get charity care for the bill!! Good luck!!

    Hi Everyone,

I just had another caase of that yellow fluid running out of my nose when I bent over. I was shocked when I red some of the stories here that it could be brain fluid, cause the only thing I could connect it with is sinuses. After a sinus pain one winter I felt pressure in my left cheek. I went to the seeside in summer and it had a good effect on my sinuses. I had that yellow fluid running out a couple of times, but the scary part was when I woke up in the morning and found a huge wet circle on my pillow ( like someone poored a large amount of liquid). The good thing was that after that all my problems with sinuses stoped for a couple of years, so I assumed that that was them clearing up, and that was a positive thing for me ( no more pain, numbnes, pressure, headakes). I had a pain in sinuses a couple years after that and just a couple of days ago I felt pressure in my right sinus, above my teeth, and my teeth hurt when I would jump or run. In the evening I moved my head and felt some liquid moving, like it was traped in the cavity in the sinus( very annoying feeling) could not do anything to get it out. The day after that I had a liquage again, after the shower, and I was glad, because, again, after that the pain and all bad simphtoms related to sinuses stop.

I hope that this has nothing to do with CNS fluid, never heard anyone having CNS fluid leeking before…

What do you think? Am I right?

i had the same problem and i found this site which actually made me panic even worse!!!! The fact of the matter is that you need to go to your doctor and get checked out!!! My doc said that the chances of a healthy person leaking brains is very unlikely!!! my fluid was clear and tasted like salt!!! yea i tasted it lol!!! anyway i had a condition called Rhinitis which is the medical name for inflamation inside the nose i was prescribed a nasal spray called fluticasone propionate and my nose stopped leaking a few days later!!! my advise is dont use the internet to determine whats wrong with u!!!! go to ur doc or er!!!

The yellow fluid is interstitial fluid from capillaries folks, nothing to be alarmed about. Usually happens when you have a cold or sinus infection.

Taking an antihistamine will help dry it out.

Rest assured, your brain juices aren’t leaking out!!

I got the clear liquid too.it started on and off in the middle of winter,i’m still getting it in july.never had the probelm ever before.maybe its another virus they haven’t mention for 2009.maybe because swine flu is so widespread, the drip is thing isn’t that big of a issue.

definitly yellow fluid is allergies ,and sinitis comes next if you dont handle the allergies properly with the right meds.singular works the best for me,im allergic to dogs unfortunately claitin didn’t work that well neither did zyrtec.i use to always be stuffy and it was sinitis city all the time for me.singular i started singular 10 days agotodays day11 all my problems i suffered for a whole year with allergies is gone.but the clear fluid thing i get now doesn’t hurt but comes out nite time when i lay down and i dont wake up coughing no more or wake up stuffy in the morning.

Oh dear…I’m very concerned about how this will turn out. Please let me know, because I have fluid dripping out when I bend over too! And I get this rush, and my head starts throbbing..

I had this exact same problem, the exact same findings on CT scan, and the exact same surgery. However, it did not resolve the problem. I ended up having 2 follow-up surgeries within a 4-week period. Scar tissue that had been removed during the original surgery had grown back, and then the next time was for debriedment because some of the packing that was left in had lodged way up by my eye.

I have continued to get recurrent sinus infections in the same place as before: over the cheekbone, back of the head and forehead–all on the right side and never a problem with the left.

In fact, for the second time in a few months, I am having the same nose leak when I bend over that you described here. I was getting clothes out of the dryer the other day, and with no warning came these drips of fluid. The fluid is green and smells awful (yes, yum). This has now been going on for 5 days with the fever. I don’t have health insurance right now, so I am waiting until I do again so I can see if something can be done.

I just had to comment on your post here, even though it’s a few years old, because you are the only other person I have found that has gone through the same thing. I hope your problem is resolved now!

I have just had fever a few days ago(perhaps the swine flu) and a cold after that and has had dripping of yellowish/clear water now and then from the nose in the last two days.

I suspect it is an aftermath from the fever, but is of course also afraid it might be brain fluid dripping as well, as I have heard people has died from it earlier.

After reading all the stories here, I conclude it is 99% chance of it being a result of the fever, but if it continues for another 2 weeks I think I will contact a doctor.

hi all. i had to comment on this as im pretty worried. back in 2006 i frequently got the yellow liquid dripping out of my nose when i bent over or tipped my head to the side sometimes. never got it checked out or anything. but it stopped in 2006 or 2007 luckily but now it has started again. the worrying thing is though that the liquid is now like watered down blood.
it still happens when i bend over or move my head to the side but its now like blood. anyone experienced this?
im going to have to go the doctors i know but would like to hear other opinions/occurences.
    thanks. Conners.

Ya been draining for about 12 years on and off, it stems from a sinus infection and the staff infection which you really never get rid of it just lies dormant in agravates when from time to time. I havent drained the yellow water since 2002 or 3 but after just getting rid of a nasty flue it started draining again. So no you wont die but ya it sure leaves you open for other problems like ear infetion and LMJ. Things we have to go through living in this earth suit.

Hi; I have just found this site and have read all the connected stories.
What has been happening has mystified me for years as I also have and still do “leak” clear, watery salty-tasting fluid from my nose whenever I bend slightly forward. It started about 5-6 years ago, somewhat sporadicly but now has become a regular “free-flowing” event constantly during the course of the day. Have been to see my GP about it as it is very embarassing and is affecting my work(I work in the Patient-Food Service are of a Hospital Ward and it doesn’t look good when you are constantly leaking over Patients!!). He gave me a nasal spray and some antihistimines, which were a total waste of time as all they did was mske the inside of my nose dry and start to crack and hurt-they had no positive effect on the constant leakage. I do have allergies but have not had any occurrances that have triggered any attacks, in fact I have been “allergy-sympton-free” now for 3 years; so what is happening to my nose is annoying the daylights out of me. I’m going back to the GP to see if there is anything else to look for with regards to this leaky nose….!!
    :-( (

That sounds exactly like me right now. It is gross and nasty. My nose drips when I bend over and if I lean my head to the side I can feel it move then I pick my head up and it drips out my nose and to the back of my throat. Now that’s just nasty. The thing is I had 2 sinus surgeries done in 2007. It did not help me at all.I also get sinus infection and at one point my ENT doc had refills on my antibiotics. My ENT doc was okay but it seemed like when I told him I felt no better after the surgery he no longer wanted to deal with me. I started seeing another doctor after the last 2 primary care doctors L. Mosher and D. Bhakta. They made me feel like I was crazy and made it seem like nothing is wrong with me.I will be seing my new Doctor againg tomorrow due to my white blood cells being high which means probably another sinus infection which is the story of my life along with a couple of other health issues I have. I more and likely will be seeing a new ENT Doc I really started feeling like I was the only one with these symptoms, thanks to those 2 doctors.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to let all of you know, I have allergies and was getting injections from an allery specialist. I am allergic to practically everything here where I’ve lived for 35 yrs. Atleast that’s what my allergy test came back saying. It said,
    “I’M ALLERGIC TO Arizona”.

Similar to my symptoms. Started as fluid in right ear, ENT drained, then it came back. Went to another ENT, he drained, it came back again and then the doctor placed tube in right ear. About 2 weeks later, my left ear stopped up the very same way. Then, one night I was suddenly woke up by fluid forcefully squirting out of my right nostril. It felt as if something had burst, I jumped up and ran to the bathroom holding my nose, thinking it was a very bad nosebleed, but it was clear fluid. I know this sounds nutty, but I measured the distance from my pillow to the fartherest spot on the bed, and it was 22 inches. That’s how forceful the gushing was. I went back to the ENT, told him about the weird incident, and that now my left ear was stopped up. He pooh poohed the incident and told me to come back in 6 months. (to check on the tube in my right ear) He made me feel as though he thought I made it all up. Now I’ve been hesitant to tell another Dr. about it. I’ve never been given a CT or MRI, and still don’t know why I have had fluid in my ears, one at a time. I don’t know what to do.

I would switch ENT doctor and request a CT scan of the Paranasal sinuses. I do not like the way some doctors do not listen to you or just give you nasal spray and say come back in 6 months.I noticed that most doctors are like that but it is only us that knows our body and knows something’s not right. I went to my primary care doctor and my white blood cells were high which means there is an infection in my body somewhere. They of course gave me antibiotics and the leaking stopped but the pain and pressure is still there always on the left side of my face above and below my eye.. My left ear is always congested and I can not hear as well out of that ear.The left side of my nose and cheeck always feels like something is moving in there.I told this to my ear, nose and throat Doctor before and after the surgery and he really did nothing but give me antibiotics. I feel that this is the way they make money by keeping you sick and requesting for you to come back.I thought Doctors were suppose to make you well. I started being real firm with all my doctors because I feel most of them do not listen just because they are doctors and we are just patients. You can also choose your own ear, nose and throat doctors by letting your primary care doc know so when the referral is done it is not with the doctors they choose.

Thank you so much for the response. I do feel more confident about trying to find another doctor since finding this website. I wish doctors would do more CT’s and MRI’s attempting to find the cause instead of only treating symptoms. But in this instance, my ENT wasn’t interested in listening at all. I think I even sensed anger in his tone. It was a hurtful and humiliating experience. Thank you for this website, and to all who have posted here, it means more to me than I could ever express.

I would recommend you go see a naturopath. There has got to be something wrong with your diet if you are accumulating that much mucous. You shouldn’t have to have an ENT perform surgery to get it out, because what are you going to do next time it happens? Just get surgery again? I don’t see what would keep it from coming back. I used to be super mucousy and get sinus infections all the time until I gave up dairy. I’m a voice major/singer/voice teacher so it’s very important that I don’t have mucous issues because it significantly affects my voice. I also started getting sick much less often after I gave up dairy. Before you have surgery I would highly recommend going off dairy for a month and keeping a journal of your daily observations regarding your puss/sinuses/faucet nose. You should go get a blood allergy test by a naturopath, not a normal MD. MD’s make money off of you having to get surgery. No matter how nice they seem You also need to get on some probiotics to balance all those antbiotics that are bombing not only your bad bacteria but also your good bacteria(which eats the bad bacteria and keeps you balanced healthwise).

Success!!!!-After 3 GP’s,4 nasal sprays,1 lot of nasal drops and a packet of Loratadine, all of which have not made one iota of difference to the “leakage”, I have finally got a referral to an ENT specialist….fingers crossed folks….!!
Heather my dear, I understand, appreciate your suggestions but have to point out that there is a BIG difference between nasal mucus and the watery, thin nasal discharge we(?) are experiencing…this is DEFINATELY not allergy or diet related…why am I so sure? Well as I don’t have Dairy(including eggs) or wheat/gluten or sugar in my diet(basically I live on protein, fresh vege, fruits and pulses)because I am allergic to ALL of these, one can almost safely assume that it is “something else”. I wish it was so simple a thing as an allergy…at least I could take a bunch of pills/sprays and get rid of it….sigh…wishful thinking.
