Do not eat while reading this post. You’ve been warned.
It’s pouring down rain as I write this. And there is a tornado warning. The sirens went off and we forced the kids to pile in to Keaton and Spencer’s room. Their room is about half the basement so it’s far from a small room. However, somehow they still find it necessary to argue and fight and yell at each other because they are all confined in there and they know we can’t send them to their own rooms for time out. I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve said, “When the tornado warning is over you are all going to bed!”
After a week of these awful rainstorms we’re starting to get smart. We’ve already lit all the candles. Now were just waiting for the electricity to go out. Which, of course, means it won’t go out. But at least we’re prepared.
Honestly, I’m just sitting here praying the power doesn’t go out until So You Think You Can Dance is over. I’m not actually watching the show because I prefer to TiVo all my shows and watch them without commercial interruption later, but I have it on in the background so I’m can be sure I get the whole show. I know that doesn’t make sense. If it’s on. And I’m sitting here. Why not just watch it? I’m just so complex like that. [Plus my boss is in town and I've just spent the whole day with her. Which means I totally need a drink, but we don't keep any alcohol in our house. So I'm a girl on the edge.]
Speaking of things that make me unique, I had a follow up visit with my ENT yesterday. During my surgery my doctor was able to clean out much of my frontal sinus cavaties [those above my eyes], but there was a section he couldn’t get to. So smack dab in the center of my forehead is still some icky gunk [technical term] hanging out in a sinus cavity. [I hope you're not eating while reading this 'cause it only gets worse.]
So how do we get this icky gunk out of my head? There are a couple of options.
Option #1 is I’m going on a small does of Prednisone for about forever…or at least a year if you want the less dramatic version. I’m a little worried about this because I have a friend who was on Prednisone for quite a few years to battle her Crohn’s Disease. The drug ended up eating away at her bones and she’s had both of her hips replaced and both of her shoulders replaced. Plus when they replaced her shoulder they accidentally broke her arm. And she’s only 34 now and her surgeries were quite a few years ago. But hopefully the Prednisone will help clear out my icky gunk without surgery and I won’t have to be on it for several years like she was. And I think the dosage I’m taking is a much smaller dose than she had to take.
Option #2 is more surgery. And not just regular, stick a vacuum up my nose and suck out the icky gunk surgery. For this surgery he would make an incision at my hair line, PULL BACK MY SKIN, cut open the bone in my forehead and suck out the icky gunk. Then he would put the bone back and take skin from my stomach to cover the scar on my forehead. [Although clearly he hasn't seen the skin on my stomach. They don't call it twin skin for nothing.] As soon as he uttered the words, “PULL BACK YOUR SKIN” I knew that option was out. All I could think of was that movie Face Off and I was completely grossed out. I’d like to keep my skin securely attached to my face, thank you very much. [I told you not to eat while reading my post!]
So that’s where I stand in my continued sinusitis saga. It’s been exhausting.
But wait. All is not lost. So You Think You Can Dance is over and the power is still on. Woo Hoo! Big smoochies for the electric company today.

Sorry if you’ve mentioned it and I’m not remembering, but have you tried those nasal washer things? Can’t remember the proper name… It’s a little pot that you put lukewarm salted water in and you pour it into one nostril and let it come out the other (leaning forward over a bowl). (I saw it on Oprah from Dr. Oz, first heard of it from Andrew Weil a long time ago).
Neither option sounds good to me.
My aunt was on pred for chrohn’s too for most of her life but as far as I know she didn’t have any bone problems. It just made her gain weight, a lot of weight.
I would get a second opinion.
I talked to your doctor after surgery so I know about the steriods. You will be getting a super super super duper low dose just to keep things under control. Such a small dose he says will not impact you like what you are used to - staying awake etc. Plus with Ass diseases, those people are on a pretty strong dose for like ever literally ever. So I think you will be cool. But ripping your face off could be cool too. Think of the scar.
