No longer a baby. Not yet a man.

Well it happened. Caleb went to school. He’s a full blown kindergartener. He rode the bus to school. He hung his backpack on his hook under his name. He ate his first meal in the cafeteria (cheese pizza and applesauce with cake for dessert). He got to play on the kindergarten/1st grade playground. He went to his first special (art). He took his first nap on his beach blanket with his name embroidered in it. He ate snack with his class (a gingerbread cookie). And he rode the bus home.

First day of kindergarten

That’s a lot for one day. I’m exhausted. :)

I picked him up from the bus stop. I wanted to be there as soon as he got off the bus so I could hear all about his day. He came off the bus with a big grin on his face.

I said, “How was your day?”

Apparently he said, “good” but I didn’t hear him. So I asked him again.

“I said good,” he snapped with his new big boy attitude.

I said, “Why are you so grumpy?”

“Because you’re asking too many questions!” he hollered.

Later he did tell me about his day though. And he was so excited to tell me about it. They read a story about a gingerbread man. The gingerbread man was hiding and they had to look for him. They looked in the cafeteria. They looked on the playground. And they finally found him by the back door in their classroom.

Apparently the day wore him out because a half hour before his 10pm weekend bedtime he asked me to carry him to bed. There was no bedtime battle. No yelling at him to go lay down. He was begging me to put him in bed and give him hugs and kisses. That’s when I knew. My baby’s no longer a baby. Now he’s a big boy.
