I’m so uncool, or whatever the kids are calling it these days
At Skyler’s conference yesterday, we learned Skyler’s teacher has a son in Keaton’s grade. His name is Andrew.
Later that night I was driving Keaton home from basketball practice. I asked him if he knows Andrew. He shook his head yes.
I asked, “Is he cool?”
Keaton looked at me like I had just sprouted horns out of my butt.
I was clueless as to why. “What? I mean is he cool or is he a dork?”
Keaton laughed out loud.
“What?” I asked truly confused. What the hell was so funny.
He said, “He might be ‘cool’ if it was 1980. However, now in the 2000’s we don’t say ‘cool.’”
“Well what do you say now?” I asked.
“I don’t know. Awesome or something. Anything but cool. Cool is when it starts to get cold outside.”
I had no idea we weren’t supposed to say cool anymore. Since when? And here I was thinking I was all hip. Do we still say hip? Or is that just a body part now?

If you keep saying hip & cool, they will come back into fashion, and you will be ahead this time. Do we still say fashion? God, kids make you scared to speak.

I know “ponage” was a new word for cool with my boys. I say WAS because that could have already changed. I’m just glad that everything being “gay” is on the down slide. At least I think it is.

‘Cool’ and ’sucks’ will remain the default until forever.

I’m 16 and the fact that I say “cool” apparently makes me completely the opposite of cool! I just can’t keep up with the fashionable words these days.
