Creating a buzz

This is finals week and I’m knee deep in final papers and studying for tests. In tonight’s Direct Marketing class, we gave our final presentations. The presentation on the direct marketing campaign we’ve been working on all semester. We had to come up with a campaign for a world music performance in March of next year. The Director of Marketing at the theater hosting the show was in class today to listen to our presentations and give his feedback.

One of the teams (not us) had chosen Schlitz as their team name. If you are a total beer newb (a term my teenagers use for somebody who knows nothing) like I am, Schlitz is a type of beer. After the presentation the Director asked the team why they chose that name, knowing that the Dean of the college is so focused on reducing underage drinking on campus. One of the kids said, “Well we thought it was create a buzz.”

Get it, buzz. Like marketing buzz, buzzwords, etc. And getting a buzz when you drink too much.

We all busted up laughing and the Director was impressed by their creativity.
