I’m such an old lady I almost broke a hip sledding

Last year I was begging for snow, but we didn’t get any until well in to January. And that was just a pathetic dusting of snow. This year we definitely had a white Christmas. In fact it’s been snowing about every three days ever since the last ice storm. I love the snow. But I could do without the ice.

So today we went out to play in the snow. Skyler and I made snow chairs. Mine was a recliner. See how resourceful I am? I can be lazy even when playing out in the snow. It’s an art people.

After a while my butt was getting cold in my snow recliner. [In fact it's still cold now. Hours later. I'm half tempted to drop my drawers and sit on the heater for a while.]

So we moved on to sledding.

We live on a hill, but there are tons of trees. Trees make it hard to sled. Getting a concussion puts a real damper on sledding fun.

So instead we went to the alley out back. We tried to just ride the sled down the alley, but we weren’t really moving unless we jerked our body forward. That was way too much effort for sledding.

Then Lee came up with a brilliant idea. There was a big snow pile from plowing. Lee built up a snow wall so the sled would turn causing us to go down the alley rather then straight in to the piled up snow on the other side of the alley. Trust me. It hurts when you slam in to a snow bank. I went sideways and almost had to call for an ambulance.

Skyler and I took turns riding the sled down the snow pile, seeing who went the farthest. She ended up winning that contest, but she totally cheated. She was pushing herself down the alley, rather than stopping when the sled stopped.

Lee saw how much fun we were having and got totally jealous. He decided he was going to take the sled for a spin. He ran up to the snow pile, jumped on the sled head first, belly smack dab in the middle of the sled. But the sled wasn’t cooperating. Instead the sled stayed put and Lee went belly first down the snow pile in to the alley. Good thing he had on a thick sweatshirt or he would have gotten road rash…or snow burn or something.

And that’s when I realized I need to buy a new video camera (our current one is on it’s last leg and can almost see the light of video camera heaven). That way I can take it every where I go and capture hilarious moments like this on tape. We totally would have won America’s Funniest Home videos with this footage.

  1. Oh no! Well, it sounds like you had fun.

On the last snow day I dug out a sled run out of the 2 feet of snow in our front yard for the kids. Now that’s love, I tell you.
