This is how old people party

We’re party animals over here in the Bean household. We really know how ring in the new year right. We spent New Years like we spend it every year for the last several years. At home. With the kids.

I told you. We’re party animals.

We told the kids they could each have ONE friend spend the night. In the past Keaton and Justis each invited a few friends over for a New Years Eve party. But we weren’t up for a big party this year. After all Lee is pushing 40. However, I am still very young in my early thirties. [I like to take every opportunity I can to get in an old man reference.]

Spencer was the only one who could get a friend to come over at such short notice. The kids played video games while Lee and I watched a movie.

At 11:30 we broke out the champagne. And by champagne I mean sparkling apple juice and sparkling grape juice. Again, party animals.

Last year I had eight wine glasses. But Justis’ friends were having a wrestling match or pillow fight or something and broke one of them.

So this year we had seven wine glasses. But Caleb got mad at the boys and threw his toy. It hit the glass just right and broke the side right off. Without even knocking the glass over. He’s quite talented

It’s starting to become a New Year’s tradition. Make a toast and then break a glass. Kind of like a Jewish wedding. Only we’re Presbyterian.

We got the kids in bed around 1am. Then Lee forced me to stay up to watch a stupid movie; The Simpson’s Movie. I finally got to bed at 3am. Way late for an old young girl like me.

After sleeping in until noon, I woke up with a bit of an apple juice hangover. So I recovered by watching a Dirty Jobs marathon. Apparently I’m addicted to TV marathons. But can you blame me? That Mike Rowe is such a cutie.

I did take an hour break to take a nap. And while I was laying in bed I turned on the History Channel. There was a very interesting show about the history of the hot dog. Of course, I missed half of it because I fell asleep, but I did get to sing along to “I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Weiner.” So I was awake for the best part. [You're singing the Oscar Mayer weiner song now, aren't you?]

It was a perfect lazy day. And tomorrow it’s back to the daily grind of work.

  1. Wow. Parrrrrr Teeeeee!

I should talk. We watched the latest Pirates movie “At Worlds End.” Oh, and we were in bed by 11:00pm. All of our German family called at 3PM West Coast Time to wish us a happy New Year. They are 9 hours ahead in Hamburg. We decided that next year we would celebrate the New Year on German time. This would allow us to participate and still make it to bed when we want and feel like we celebrated.

    I know. Loooo Serrrrs.

Lance’s last blog post..And I THOUGHT they were our friends…..

  2. 3 am?!?! You ARE a party animal.
We made it until 2:30am playing Cranium with some friends. Yeah, it was crazy over here too. Downright nutty.

Yesterday was spent sitting by the fire watching more !%@$@# snow falling outside and watching ratatouille and dirty jobs inside.

    Cheers!
