I blame the school for these dark circles under my eyes
We are three weeks in to the school year. Guess how many times I’ve been to my Tuesday night class. Go ahead. Guess.
ONE. I’ve been to class one time. It’s a programming class. I’m seriously behind.
It’s been a crazy winter this year. Not only is the snow burying us, but it’s so darn cold. But then it’s warm again. And then it’s cold. Two weeks ago it was -33 on Thursday. By Monday it was 48 degrees out. We were ready to put on our shorts. Two days later it was -22. That 48 degree day was just a big practical joke Mother Nature pulled on us. She’s such a huge tease. Doesn’t she know nobody likes a tease?
Last week I skipped class because we were under a blowing snow advisory. It was very, VERY windy and I was worried about blowing snow on the interstate. This isn’t the big city. Our interstate is in the country. Snow blows right on to the interstate. And cars drive right off the road. On Sunday it snowed and Monday there was some thick fog. On my way to school I counted eight cars in the ditch on my drive there and back.
Tonight we are having a “severe winter storm.” It’s snowing. It’s been snowing since around 1pm. It’s not supposed to stop until around noon tomorrow. They are saying we will likely get more than a foot of snow; maybe up to 18 inches. That’s a lot. Especially since it’s been snowing about every other day for the last two weeks.
I think it’s pretty safe to say the kids won’t have school tomorrow. What’s new? They didn’t have school on Monday. They got out two hours early today. I’m pretty sure they missed a few days last week. And the week before. I’m pretty sure they are spending more time at home then they at school these days. The kids are loving it now, but they will be cursing it come summer when they are still in school in June rather than hanging out at the pool.
So anyway…back to cancelling school. You know they will cancel and yet they haven’t sent out a notice yet. Why do they always wait until the morning? Why can’t they let us know the night before? Why can’t they just let us all sleep in?
I think it’s all a conspiracy to deny me my beauty sleep. Can’t a mom get some sleep?

AMEN Sister. I would love to get the call the night before. Our school has an automated calling system that calls you at 5am to tell you there is no school. Ok, is it necessary to call that early? Even when there is school I am not up at that hour. I would be perfectly happy, if you have to call the morning of, with a nice 7 or 7:30 a.m. call.

[...] Guess what? School was cancelled today. I know. I was shocked. [...]
[...] Yesterday we got 5.5 more inches of snow. And ice. Fun times. The kids didn’t have school today because it was an inservice day. But now school has been cancelled tomorrow. So another snow day to make up. (Apparently the superintendent reads my blog because he’s now letting us know the night before.) [...]
