How’d I get so lucky to get such a sweet little boy
Caleb has a field trip tomorrow. They are going to Texas Roadhouse to learn about, umm…I’m really not sure. I guess they get to tour the kitchen and then get to eat lunch in the restaurant.
I volunteered to chaperon, but only five parents per classroom are allowed to go. Caleb’s teacher told us if more than five parents volunteered she’s just pull names out of a hat. Apparently a lot of parents sent the form back in because it came down to drawing names. And my name wasn’t drawn.
Honestly I was a little upset about it. I go to all of the kids’ field trips. I hate missing this one. But, like I’m always telling the kids, I have to share. Other parents get to go this time. I’ll get to go next time.
But telling Caleb we had to share wasn’t going over very well. He couldn’t understand why I can’t come with him on his field trip. He said, “Did you fill out that yellow form?” I said, “Yes honey, but only five parents can go and other parents were chosen.” That wasn’t good enough for him.
As I was tucking him to bed he started crying. “You can still come. Just come with me,” he sobbed. It broke my heart. I explained that we need to take turns and this time isn’t my turn. He kind of understood that, but he still wanted me to come. So I promised him Dad and I would take him to Texas Roadhouse sometimes, just the three of us. He was still sad I didn’t get to come with him on his field trip, but that satisfied him enough that he wiped away his tears.
Kids are so darn sweet.

I remember that field trip…’cept it was Chi-Chi’s when my kids were that little. I think grandpa Leo went with Brendon. How sweet though - he’ll be missin’ his momma.

Bless his little heart. Little boys have a special relationship with their mothers. That is such a sweet story.

What a sweet little monkey! We do the Texas Roadhouse field trip here, too. Do you know yet what they learn? It’s all about that consumerism! How to eat out 101.
Our kiddos had a blast. They loved it. And now they’re hooked on loaded sweet potatoes. Too funny.
I love the way kids’ minds work.
