We interrupt this Working Wednesday for my birthday (& a contest for you)

They say its your birthday.
It’s my birthday too.

And I’m giving away stuff.
Just for you.

Ok, this is why I’m not a song writer.

But I am giving away a $25 gift certificate to Build-A-Bear. Get your daughter (or son) the new Tropical Hello Kitty. Skyler has it and she loves it. She sleeps with it every night. Check out the Build-A-Bear Flickr stream to see other kids loving their Tropical Hello Kitties too. That could be your kid.

So what do you have to do to win this $25 gift certificate? It’s easy. Just leave me a comment and tell me about what comforted you to sleep when you were a child. Did you have your own teddy bear? Did you suck your thumb? Did you sleep with an old beat up blanket with more holes than material? Tell me all about it.

You have until Midnight CDT on Sunday, June 15th to enter. So enter today.

I had to sleep with my light on and Rub-a-dub Dolly. She was naked cuz I lost her clothes. My mom has a picture of me sleeping with her somewhere. Glad she hasn’t brought that out.

I had a little, plastic Chrissy doll that was propped up under the one Christmas morning.

I really don’t have memory of needing comfort to sleep but, my mother told me that I was on the bottle until I was three years old and I had to have the bottle to sleep. So I believe that was my comfort, a nice bottle of milk!

    Happy Birthday!

    Happy Birthday!

Believe it or not, I still own the teddy bear that I used to sleep with when I was a little kid. (Idon’t sleep with him anymore) The story goes that my uncle bought me this giant teddy bear when I was a kid, and that I wanted to sleep with that, but it was like 2 ft tall (bigger than me). I was really upset that the bear didn’t fit in the bed with me. So my mom went to “Shoprite” (local grocery store) and got me a normal sized teddy bear. I named him Scrunchy Bear and slept with him for YEARS! He’s practically bald now – but I still love him; however he rests in storage now days.

I remember dragging around this huge black and grey rabbit under my arm! It’s ears lay flat along its back and I would stroke it’s soft fur, carrying it under my arm everywhere. Years later, as an adult, my parents cleaned out their attic and we found it. It looked completely different through adult eyes…it was actually quite small with matted fur and a curve along its back where the ears were now bent to the shape of the back from being under my arm. I could still see it and feel it in my minds eye, and I realized how my love for it saw past it’s disfigured and worn shape!

Happy Birthday! Hope you’re out doing something fun. Did one of those sweet kids of yours bake you a cake? Special dinner? Mine never do. But then again, mine are brats. HA!

Brats that they are … they all love Build A Bear. My oldest is even on board. He likes to get them and dress them in all licensed sports wear. Then they sit and collect dust mites in his bedroom.

My girls though … play with theirs daily.

Again, Happy Birthday. Hope your day was great.

I can’t say I slept with anything in particular but I collected stuffed animals so they were always around my bed. Probably the most comforting thing for me was the way I calmed one of my irrational fears. I was CONVINCED that if I was covered up from at least the waist down then a killer who broke into the house would not stab me in the back. It worked – I’ve never been stabbed in the back. Not literally anyway…figuratively…who hasn’t?! Oops – off track.

It was my fourth birthday and my mom got me one of the Wrinkles dogs. (it looks like this one exactly: http://i1.iofferphoto.com/img/1153551600/_i/12982033/1.jpg)

I, of course, named him Wrinkles (What can I say, I was a practical child).

Did i sleep with him every night? yes, for a long time. he is one of the only toys I didn’t give away to charity and still takes refuge on my bed, next to my ugly doll (http://www.uglydolls.com/).

I sucked my thumb and had a blankie as a young child and once I hit school age I traded my blankie for a stuffed dog named droops–I still have him and my daughter loves to play with him now!

I don’t remember having any sort of anything that I slept with. Hmmm, maybe being number 10 in a family of 11 had something to do with that? Maybe I figured I was lucky to have a spot to sleep in!

I had a Grumpy Care Bear that I slept with when I was younger. When I was upset Grumpy always cheered me up. :) I actually still have him and he sits in my daughters room with her care bears. :)

I slept with this horrid light blue blanket named (so clever) “Blanky” and it was soft and it is now paper thin from me dragging it everywhere. My favorite part was the silk edging – I loved rubbing it on my fingernails when I would chew them down until they were nubs. It made it better somehow. HA! I also always wrapped up in Blanky my “Digger” which was one of the Shirt Tales for those 80’s kids on here. He was a mole I think but he now resembles some small shriveled up old man bear. I still have both of these things in my trunk. I want to get them out when my husband travels – I won’t lie!

I did okay going to sleep, but I needed comfort when I woke up. Apparently when I was first adopted (at the age of 2), I would wake up really early and go stand at the head of my mother’s bed watching her sleep. She says she would wake up and I would just be standing there staring at her. Apparently, I needed to make sure I still had a mother.

My son has no such issues, thankfully. He goes to bed after a prayer and a song and wakes up and “reads” or talks to himself. Pretty good for a 13 month old.
