Sunday Linky Love: The Iowa Flood Edition

This week’s Sunday Linky Love is brought to you by the letter F, as in Fuck You Mother Nature. And the number 24,000…the number of people homeless in our town because of the floods this week.

Some more numbers for this week are….

9.2: The number of MILES affected by the flood.
1300: The number of CITY BLOCKS affected by the flood.
3900: The number of HOMES affected by the flood.

As promised, I uploaded the video I took on Friday, June 13th as we drove through downtown on Interstate 380. This was just a couple hours after the water crested at 31.12 feet…almost 20 feet above the 12 foot flood level.

More videos include:

UPDATE: If you would like to help the flood victims please contact the Red Cross. Their website has information about how you can help.

Also, if you live in the Pheonix area you can stop by the Iowa Cafe to make donations. You can donate money, clothes, toys, supplies and more. Lee’s Aunt Pam owns the restaurant so tell her we sent you.

  1. Wow! Seeing your videa just gives me the chills . . .

Lis Garrett’s last blog post..What did you do?

  2. Yep. Fuck Mother Nature. I live in Iowa City, and while our mess is nowhere near your mess, it’s still awful. I think it’s our bridges that disturb me the most, while it’s the reality that most of the folks in CR didn’t have flood insurance. I just keep on wondering, what happens next? What is this going to do to our scary economy? Good luck to you and yours up there, okay?

  3. I feel like such a horrible friend. I haven’t been online in a while and haven’t been available to help. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. I grew up in Iowa and it has a very special place in my heart. It breaks my heart to think of all the families affected as well as the farmers.

When I was younger the creek next to our house would flood ever spring and we would end up having to go live with a relative until in went back down. That was such a small incident compared to what you are going through.
