Parenting and sleeping is like water and vinegar

This morning I awoke to screaming from the living room. In fact it was the screaming that woke me up. At 9am. To many people, 9am is sleeping in. Not to me. To me 9am is early on a Saturday morning. I’m more of an 11am-on-a-Saturday kinda gal. So I was a little pissed.

The screaming was coming from Skyler, Spencer and Caleb who were all yelling at each other as well as the TV. This always happens when they play video games. This morning it was some game on the Wii. Skyler was screaming, “COME THIS WAY.” Spencer was screaming, “NO! WE ARE GOING THIS WAY.” Caleb was screaming, “WHY DID YOU JUST KILL ME?” Even though that’s the point of the game.

Actually, I’m not positive that’s what they were screaming. I was half asleep and very groggy so what I heard was more like Charlie Brown’s teacher. But I’m guessing they were screaming the above because that’s what they normally scream at each other while playing video games.

Why can’t kids just play a freaking game without getting ticked off and yelling at each? Why does video game = screaming like a banshee? Why?

So I had to drag my tired butt out of bed to ground them from the video game for the rest of the day. Parenting is sooo getting in the way of my sleep.

At still less then 2 years of parenthood under my belt, you give me huge amounts of hope that a day will come when I too can sleep in until 9 because the kids function without me. Oh yes, my day will come. Oh yes.

LOL! And that’s precisely why I got rid of ALL the video games. Hannah and Jacob morph into little demons whenever they play, and it’s just not worth it to me (even though my husband and I would love a Wii).

I don’t think I could physically stay in bed until 9AM. Whether I want to or not, my body is ready to get up and get moving by 6:30 on a Saturday morning (I’m up at 5:40 on school days).

Oh, I’m so with you. For some reason I decided to put my youngest daughter’s activities on Saturday morning starting at 9:30 am. I’ve only done it once, and I’m already hating it. Sigh.

Actually I’m doing better than hubby this week though. He does hockey with my son. First practice? Saturday at 6 am….Bwaaaah!
