Failing miserably before I even started
I’ve been thinking about creating one of those 101 things to do in 1001 days lists, but I ran in to a couple of snags.
- I’m struggling to come up with 101 things. How lame am I? I scoured other people’s lists and some of them have great ideas, but I know I wouldn’t do them. For example, I’d like to see the pyramids in Egypt, but I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen in the next 2 1/2 years. So if I limit my list to things I might actually do it leaves me with things like breath and eat. Oh and procrastinate from any sort of exercise routine.
- Lots of people had some very vague things on their list. Things like spend more time with husband or read more to my kids. Or they listed something they wanted to start doing going forward like getting up an hour early every morning to exercise. The best part of creating a list is being able to cross stuff off when you’ve completed that task. How can you cross off “read more to the kids?” I need something a little more measurable like “finish three loads of laundry without bitching even once about how we have way to many flippin articles of clothing” so I can cross shit off.
- I’m scared of failure. Let’s face it. I’m not very good about reaching my goals in a timely fashion. When I graduated from high school in 1992 I had a goal of getting a bachelor’s degree. Here we are 16 years later and I’m still working on that goal. I can’t accomplish something in 2 1/2 years.
Have any of you made one of these lists? Did you accomplish everything on your list? Did you even come close?

My lists are shorter, and yes, I need it to be stuff I can cross off.

You totally crack me up. Probably because reading this is like reading about my own issues.
I have not done the list, for all of the reasons you mentioned.

I do not set goals that are unachievable. I used too, but what’s the point of failing before you begin? I can’t come up with TEN things to do in 100 days, much less 101 things to do in a thousand. No thanks. LOL
I set one resolution for myself this year, and I set the bar VERY low so I could reach it. I will read two books a month, 24 books this year. At least half need to come from my own bookshelves, which are groaning under the weight of all the unread books sitting on them. I cannot neglect my blogging, my job, or my children to do the reading. It sounds like a small goal, and it is. But, I don’t read enough, because I’m too busy writing or finding something else to do.
U could have said one book a week, which I could have managed, really, but there’s no sense in setting myself up for failure, so I backed it off to 2 a month. If I read more than that, great.

Hee hee hee. I’m glad I’m not he only one who can’t come up with a list like this. At least you tried. Me? I gave up before I started!
