Our cats live the Hilton lifestyle
The kids don’t have school on Friday or Monday because it’s the end of the semester. I took the days off too thinking we might be able to go sledding or see a movie or something. Turns out we may be spending the entire long weekend huddled together at home. Because it’s damn cold out.
It snowed all night long last night. We woke up to several inches of snow blocking our doors and bitterly cold temperatures. But that was nothing compared to tonight. Right now it is -16 outside. SIXTEEN degrees BELOW ZERO. And if that wasn’t bad enough with the windchill it feels like NEGATIVE 39.
Lee was worried about the outdoor cats. The outdoor cats that are spoiled rotten. I have never seen such spoiled outdoor cats. He put a cat door in the back of the garage so they can go in and out of the garage as they please. We have two kiddie suitcases in there with chair cushions stuffed in to them for cat beds. There is a big, self-filing water dish and food dish (even though they hunt their own birds and critters). And there is a small heater running constantly that blows on to the water so it doesn’t freeze. AND they have a lamp. Lee leaves a lamp on for them in the garage. I wish I was kidding, but I’m so not. I’m telling you….SPOILED.
With the beyond freezing temps Lee decided the cats needed a second heater. So he headed outside with a heater from the family room. He was out there for a good 15 minutes. I was envisioning him passed out in the snow. He said as he was walking out the door that the cold air practically knocks the wind out of you. So I figured he must have passed out on the short 30 foot walk from the back door to the garage door and was laying face first in the snow. I was trying to decide if I should go out and rescue him or just stay curled up in my comfy blanket.
Just as I was thinking about calling him, he walked through the back door. Apparently the cats didn’t like the heater so Lee had to trick them. He placed a heater underneath a papasan chair. So now the cats have heated water, a lamp, and a heated papasan chair. It’s a rough life they’re leading.
