They say it’s your birthday
May 19, 2009 A day in our life
It’s been an exhausting, but mostly exciting week and a half. We started with Mother’s Day last Sunday. I had an awful cold and was miserable, but it was nice to spend time with my mom, grandma, and aunt. Then we had Caleb’s 7th birthday. Followed by Lee’s college graduation. And today is Lee’s 39th birthday.
Every year on Lee’s birthday I like to remind him that he’s 5 years old than me. Granted, in less than a month I will celebrate my birthday and we will again be just 4 years apart, but on his birthday he is 39 and I am still only 34. That’s 5 years people. Don’t let Lee tell you any different.
Last year on Lee’s birthday we did all sorts of fun things like going to Menards and staining our new bathroom cabinet. Plus Lee got to the grocery store. It’s hard to top that excitement. So we didn’t even try.
This year I didn’t even make dinner. This year I made him take the kids to his softball game and I didn’t even have supper ready when they got home. So he took them to McDonald’s for a yummy birthday meal. I know. You wish you were married to the awesomeness that is me too.
But don’t worry. His birthday didn’t go completely unnoticed. I did bake him a cake. From scratch. And it was yummy.
Plus Skyler & I picked out some dry-fit shirts and a pair of shorts for him to wear to softball, or bike riding, or mowing the lawn, or whatever. He is, of course, going to take most of them back to exchange them because he’s a girl picky. He’s so hard to shop for because whenever he needs or wants something he just buys it. He searches ebay or Craigslist and gets it. Just a week ago he dropped his cell phone in a bucket of water (he has this problem with cell phones and water) so he hoped on Craigslist and had a new phone within 2 hours. So I never know what to get him on his birthday or Christmas. I’m just going to start giving him the bank card and telling him to buy himself something pretty.
The one thing we did today that Lee’s really been looking forward to is going to a movie. Lee started this tradition a couple years ago. On his birthday he goes to a movie during the day while the kids are still at school. Last year he went by himself. This year I joined him. We went to see Angels and Demons. We both agree that the DaVinci Code was better. I thought Angels and Demons was a little predictable. But it was still a very good movie.
One more year and Lee will be the big 4-0. Maybe next year I’ll actually pay for the movie.

Oh my! My husband does the same thing. For about 6 months I’m a year older than him and he *loves* to rub it in. ::sniff:: As for the birthday stuff. I swear the longer we’re married the less we do.
I’d be pretty happy with a homemade cake though!
