Winning a nobel prize

NaBloPoMo '09Living with mild OCD I have a few “quirks.” For example, the volume on the television must always be on an even number. I like to close my eyes at night only when the time on the clock looks right (usually an even number). I refuse to touch the handle on a shopping cart. I carry surgical gloves in my glove box (seems like an appropriate place, no?), alcohol swabs in my purse, and carry antibacterial soap with me wherever I go. And the list goes on. So I’m used to dealing with those little “things” that just make me me. But I have one problem I’m struggling to deal with.

A while back I was really wrestling with how to stay organized. I was forgetting everything, like dentist appointments….more than once. I was behind on household chores. My mental to-do list was a garbled mess of items I could never cross off. An intervention was needed.

So one day I sat myself down and said, “Self. You need to get your shit together.”

And Self? Told me to shut up and get a life.

So here we are today. Laundry piled so high in the laundry room I’ve started a Google search for mountain climbing tools. I’m considering making a wig with all the hair on the bathroom floor since I haven’t swept in over a week. Books are piled up almost waist-high as a makeshift door to my home office because, even though I don’t have time to do much reading, I can’t stop this obsession I have with buying.

I need to get a grip. I have a problem. I need a support group. A support group for people who start a lot of projects but can never seem to finish them. A support group for people who love to set goals, but lose interest when it comes times to follow through on those goals. A support group for people who are obsessed with making lists, but not quite obsessed enough about actually completely items on said lists. A support group for those of us who take daydreaming and procrastination to a new art form. [Seriously. I could so win a nobel prize in the procrastination category if they would just create such a category.]

Do you know of such a group? ‘Cause dude! I need an intervention. Yesterday.

Did you know missing appointments and clutter (NWP) are symptoms of AADD?? I still swear I have it even though Dr. Hayes didn’t really think so. I read an article on it once that might as well of had my name and picture in it. I also took an online test where if the results were anything over 70 you should seek medical attention and my result was like 98 or something.
