Good Deeds Do Harm

In our land of frivilous lawsuits, I have run across another story that really pisses me off. Did you hear about this story? CNN.com – Girls sued for delivering cookies – Feb 4, 2005

These two teenagers made care packages consisting of homemade cookies and nice notes for their neighbors and hand delivered them around 10:30 at night. One of their neighbors sued them because she was startled and I assume thought the girls were peeping toms or prowlers. She claimed to be upset she spent the night at her sisters and “because she was still shaking and had an upset stomach” the next morning she went to the hospital. However, she was so upset, but she never bothered to call the cops. But she did feel the need to go to the hospital and she felt the need to sue two teenage girls who were just trying to bring a smile to this old bitches face.

And then the parents of the girls offered to pay her medical bills (which I think was way beyond anything they needed to do for some pyschopathic bitch), but the “victim” declined and sued saying “their apologies were not sincere and were not offered in person.”

So this woman basically won her case. The teenage girls need to pay the $900 in medical bills, but “Judge Doug Walker declined Thursday to award punitive damages, saying he did not believe the girls acted maliciously.” I’m glad the judge didn’t award punitive damages, but I think the girls should be exempt from the $900 medical bills too. I guess the article never did say if the hospital really found anything wrong with the psycho woman, but my guess is she just worked herself up. I get worked about some things (like this article for example), but I’m not taking my ass to the hospital and making CNN pay my bills. Maybe the girls shouldn’t have come at 10:30 at night, but is that something to be sued about. NO! This woman needs to get over herself. This is exactly why nobody does good things for people anymore. This is exactly why our youths feel like they can do no good. Because of assholes like Wanita Renea Young.

[...] Then I was thinking about it; “another K student.” This kid who really did do this is a kindergartener. A kindergartener told somebody he was going to “kick his fucking ass.” For the split second I thought it was Keaton who did this I was envisioning him old and gray with hair down to this ankles cause that’s what he would look like by the time I let him out of his room again for threatening another little boy like that. But my guess is since this boy is only in kindergarten and already talks like this and admits that his brother does the same, that this is something they are learning from home. And these are the families that live in the area where we drop our son off to ride the bus. And these are the snotty little kids that ride the bus with my child. We need to seriously rethink this bus riding situation. I trust Keaton to be on his best behaviour (and yes I realize he’s not always — I’m not in denial — but all in all he’s a really good kid). But when kids act like this in kindergarten, how are they going to act when they get older? Do I want this kind of influence anywhere near my impressionable children? Hell NO! It’s so sad to see some of our youth today. And the good ones are being sued for leaving care pacakges on door steps. This is a messed up society we are living in. [...]
