Riding in to the sunset…or grass

It’s time for Caleb to learn to ride a bike. He’s pretty skilled at the big wheels and a trike, so it’s time to move on to a two-wheeler.

Lee picked up a cute little bike this morning. It’s got tiger stripes on the side. Caleb was very excited when he saw it. He wanted to jump on it immediately.

Daddy showing Caleb how to stop

Lee had to run through the basics first. He showed Caleb how to pedal [which Caleb already has down] and how to stop. Stopping was a little more difficult for Caleb. He just couldn’t figure out that he was supposed to pedal backwards to stop.

After a while he finally figured it out. So we put a helmet and some elbow pads on him and let him give it a try on his own. Once he was on his own he totally forgot how to stop. He stopped by either putting his feet down on the ground or by driving his bike in to the grass.

On his own he was having trouble steering. He kept veering off the sidewalk in to the grass. And then he was having some trouble getting his bike back on to the sidewalk. He was getting pretty frustrated with it so he decided to call it a day.

We’ll get him back out this weekend when his siblings are out on their bikes. He’ll really want to get it down when he sees his brothers and his sister riding their bikes. He wants to do everything they do.
