Caleb is really growing in to quite a young man [at four years of age ]. He’s started using air quotes. I have no idea where he got that from. I don’t think I ever use air quotes. And I can’t remember Lee ever really using air quotes. It does remind me of that episode of Friends where Joey uses air quotes while talking to Ross. Maybe Caleb’s watching too much Friends.
So anyway Caleb did it the other day. I don’t remember what he was talking about because I was just busting up that my four year old was using air quotes to talk to me.
Then on Wednesday night, on my way home from school, I picked the kids up from Lee’s softball game. I asked Caleb where daddy had parked. He pointed at Lee’s van and then he goes, “That’s [air quote] Dad’s van.” I was rolling.
Caleb has also taken to using some words I’m not too happy with. The other day Caleb, Skyler and Spencer were playing with a car or something on the table. They were rolling it across the table to the other person.
Caleb rolled it and it fell off the table. He calmly said, “Shit.”
I said, “What did you just say?”
He looked at me like I was crazy for making him repeat himself. I said, “Tell me what you said.” He repeated “Shit” like it was a very natural thing to say.
I said, “You don’t say that. That’s a bad word.”
He goes, “But my car fell off the table.”
Fast forward to Wednesday night and we were all sitting in the kitchen eating Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen. Caleb told Spencer, “I’m going to kill you” which is the new phrase around her that I cannot stand. I told Caleb not to say that because I don’t like it.
Spencer goes, “I wonder where he learned that from.”
I said, “You.”
Skyler piped up, “…and Keaton and Justis.”
Then Spencer said, “And he learned the bad words from Dad.”
Ah-ha. Now we know who the real culprit is.
