Kitty 911

Lee’s home. YEAH! Man I miss him when he’s gone. And not just because I had to order the Firday night pizza or load the dishwasher [although it does suck having to do that stuff when my boys are gone]. I’m just so used to him being here every night it’s weird when he’s not here. I worry about whether or not I locked all the doors [even though I checked them all twice] and whether the kids are whimpering [because, being a light sleeper, he's usually the one who gets up with them]. I hardly slept at all while he was gone. But last night he was home [a day early!] and all was good. I even slept in this morning. 12 hours of sleep. I feel great. Now.

In other news, we almost froze our cat, Bandit, to death. The cats love the fridge. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because we are going through this heat wave and they are just trying to get some cool air. In any event, I’m constantly having to shoo them out of the fridge when I get in there.

Earlier today, Lee was making the kids PB&J sandwiches for lunch. He had to get in the fridge for that. About a half hour later I got in the fridge to get a drink. And what do I see. Bandit. Sitting on top of the hamburger buns.

Freaking cat. When will they ever learn.

Now Bandit’s acting like I’m his number one gal, having just saved his life. He’s rubbing up against my legs, following me all over the house and jumping in to my lap as I type.

Thank God I was thirsty. I guess we are going to have to check the fridge every time before we close the door now.

Having a blonde moment

I got a new computer the other day. It has the usual monitor, CPU, keyboard…you know, computer stuff. It also came with some very nice speakers and a subwoofer. A subwoofer? For a computer. The things they come up with these days.

So anway, I was hooking up the speakers today and I couldn’t get them to work. The cord had a green end on it so I plugged it in to the green spot in the back of my computer. I plugged the other end in to the subwoofer. And I plugged the whole thing in to the wall. But it just wouldn’t work.

I could hear it. Faintly. But even turning up the volume full blast didn’t make a difference.

I knew the speakers worked because Lee had them hooked up to his computer last night and they sounded great.

I finally got so frustrated I called Lee at softball. He had me look at a few things on my computer. Everything looked fine.

He had me walk him through how I hooked it up the computer. It sounded like I did it right.

Then he goes, “You don’t have your headphones plugged in do you?”

“Umm…no. Ok, well I gotta go.”

So needless to say, my speakers work just fine. Oh, and my headphones work too. ;)

So easy, even babies can do it

This morning Lee left to take Keaton to soccer camp. Keaton will spending the next three nights in a dorm room. At almost 12 years old, he has almost spent more time living in a dorm room then I have in my lifetime. [I only lived in the dorms for two weeks before I dropped out of school and then when I went back to school I already had a family....so no more dorm living for me.]

After Lee dropped Keaton off, Lee headed to “state;” a softball tournament. He will be spending the next two nights in a hotel room two hours away. He called me 12 times on his way there. 12. So I know he made it safe. ;)

That leaves me home with just Skyler, Spencer and Caleb all weekend. I thought, “no problem…piece of cake.” Yeah, right.

About an hour ago I left the kids in front of the computer. They were playing games on cartoonnetwork.com. I went upstairs to shower and get them some ice cream. I got their bowls ready and then I walked down to tell them to go up and eat it. I didn’t even look at the computer screen. Didn’t even occur to me to look at the monitor. They are only six. All they care about is cartoons and toys. Or at least that’s what I thought.

Caleb was the only one who came upstairs with me. At the top of the stairs I heard Skyler say, “Did she say anything?” And then I heard the door close.

Right then I knew they were up to no good.

I calmly walked downstairs and looked at the monitor. There was nothing but a spammy ad that almost looked like one of the typical Shockwave games that are on cartoonnetwork.com. But then I looked closer and I saw “Boobs, shoulders and butts” in the title bar. Ummm…WHAT?!?

I said, “Are you looking at something you’re not supposed to be looking at?”

Skyler clicked the ad closed and there on the screen was a cartoon girl in a short mini skirt sitting on a cartoon couch spread eagle. I could see ads in the sidebar showing bare breasts. This was so NOT Cartoon Network. Unless it was Adult Swim.

My eyes got big and I tried not to freak out. I immediately grabbed the mouse and closed all programs. Then we had a little discussion I never thought I would be having with two six year olds about appropriate things to do and look at on the internet.

They are six. That just goes to prove how easy it is to find porn and who knows what else on the internet. I’m still in shock. Now I’m scared to even just go to the bathroom while they are on the computer.

You better believe I’m installing Net Nanny or some other filtering program on both computers before I go to bed tonight.

I’m a blogging chick

I'm a chick who blogs

Yeah, you heard me. I’m a blogging chick. Of course we knew this already, but now it’s official. I joined the Blogging Chick blogroll. Now I have links over in my sidebar for all these really wonderful women who blog. Be sure to check some of them out. And, if you’re so inclined, join the blogroll too. Then we can be like blogging sisters. And we can have pajama parties. And do each other’s hair and makeup. And talk about boys. Ok, maybe not. But join anyway. ;)
