So easy, even babies can do it
This morning Lee left to take Keaton to soccer camp. Keaton will spending the next three nights in a dorm room. At almost 12 years old, he has almost spent more time living in a dorm room then I have in my lifetime. [I only lived in the dorms for two weeks before I dropped out of school and then when I went back to school I already had a family....so no more dorm living for me.]
After Lee dropped Keaton off, Lee headed to “state;” a softball tournament. He will be spending the next two nights in a hotel room two hours away. He called me 12 times on his way there. 12. So I know he made it safe.
That leaves me home with just Skyler, Spencer and Caleb all weekend. I thought, “no problem…piece of cake.” Yeah, right.
About an hour ago I left the kids in front of the computer. They were playing games on cartoonnetwork.com. I went upstairs to shower and get them some ice cream. I got their bowls ready and then I walked down to tell them to go up and eat it. I didn’t even look at the computer screen. Didn’t even occur to me to look at the monitor. They are only six. All they care about is cartoons and toys. Or at least that’s what I thought.
Caleb was the only one who came upstairs with me. At the top of the stairs I heard Skyler say, “Did she say anything?” And then I heard the door close.
Right then I knew they were up to no good.
I calmly walked downstairs and looked at the monitor. There was nothing but a spammy ad that almost looked like one of the typical Shockwave games that are on cartoonnetwork.com. But then I looked closer and I saw “Boobs, shoulders and butts” in the title bar. Ummm…WHAT?!?
I said, “Are you looking at something you’re not supposed to be looking at?”
Skyler clicked the ad closed and there on the screen was a cartoon girl in a short mini skirt sitting on a cartoon couch spread eagle. I could see ads in the sidebar showing bare breasts. This was so NOT Cartoon Network. Unless it was Adult Swim.
My eyes got big and I tried not to freak out. I immediately grabbed the mouse and closed all programs. Then we had a little discussion I never thought I would be having with two six year olds about appropriate things to do and look at on the internet.
They are six. That just goes to prove how easy it is to find porn and who knows what else on the internet. I’m still in shock. Now I’m scared to even just go to the bathroom while they are on the computer.
You better believe I’m installing Net Nanny or some other filtering program on both computers before I go to bed tonight.

[...] After we got home from Vacation Bible School tonight, Keaton [as usual] jumped on his computer. I peeked over his shoulder to make sure he was being good, like I often do [even more now that I know my six year olds can find porn on the internet]. One of the IMs was from somebody named suprmanluvr.* [...]
